ENPs-CARE Community of Practice October Meeting
Sexual violence has a profound impact on health and well-being. Indigenous patients often face additional barriers to healing due to past trauma, systemic inequities, and cultural misunderstandings in healthcare settings. This session will provide healthcare providers with knowledge and skills to deliver compassionate, trauma-informed, and traditionally responsive care to Indigenous patients who have experienced sexual violence. Participants will explore the factors that shape Indigenous health, learn strategies to build trust and safety, and gain practical approaches for fostering resilience and healing.
Learning objectives:
After this presentation, participants have an increased knowledge of:
1. Factors that influence the healthcare experiences of Indigenous patients who have experienced sexual violence.
2. Trauma-informed and traditionally responsive strategies to foster trust, safety, and healing in clinical interactions.
3. Best practices for providing patient-centered care that upholds the dignity, resilience, and values of Indigenous patients.
